I needed to teach them how to study the At age 82, Kay Arthur continues to travel to speaking engagements as well as write books and Bible studies. “Eventually, I started thinking what would happen with these women when it was time for me to move on. It wasn’t long before a friend in Atlanta asked Kay to teach a women’s Bible study in her home, so she began regularly making the two-hour drive to Atlanta. With God’s miraculous provision, in 1970 the Arthurs purchased a 32-acre farm with two barns.
Later, with the explosion of Kay’s Bible study classes with teens and adults, they needed a larger place to meet.
Kay also began teaching God’s Word to four women gathered around a kitchen table in a friend’s home. In Chattanooga, Jack began managing a Christian radio station, and Kay began a teen Bible study. Then health issues led them back to the States. Together Jack and Kay served as missionaries in Mexico for three and a years, with her two sons from her first marriage. She met Jack Arthur, a missionary with the Pocket Testament League, and they married in 1965. While attending the University, God did the miraculous as only He could do. Life was not easy, but God carried her as she attended classes, worked as a registered nurse, and continued raising her two sons. God moved in her heart to move from Baltimore, Maryland, to Chattanooga, Tenn., to attend Tennessee Temple University. Kay’s insatiable hunger to study the Bible continued to grow. Her life radically changed as she dug deep into God’s Word. Her new relationship with the Lord and her time in God’s Word in time turned her sorrows into joy and her mourning into laughter. Phillips New Testament in Modern English and reading in Romans 9:25, “and I will call…her beloved, who was not beloved” and thinking, “Lord, that’s me!” Kay hungered and thirsted for the Word of truth and immersed herself in the Bible. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature the old things passed away behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NASB). “For ‘whoever will call on the name of the lord will be saved’ ” (Romans 10:13, NASB).

I didn’t know what ‘being saved’ meant I just knew I belonged to God, and He set me free from my slavery to sin. On the morning of July 16, 1963, Kay fell to her knees and said to God, “You can do anything You want with me if You will just give me peace.” Kay says of that day, “And there on my knees, He gave me the Prince of peace, the Lord Jesus Christ. She had a religion but not real relationship with God. She believed she would stand before God one day and He would say, “Depart from Me.” But Kay kept on searching, and at the age of 29, now a single mother working as a nurse, she called in sick to the hospital where she was working because she was sick at heart, sick over her sin, and sick over how she had been living. God began to move in her life, and Kay came under conviction of her sin. His wife was pregnant with their sixth child. She didn’t know that he was married, and by the time she found out, it was too late. Kay never dreamed she would have an affair with a married man, but she did. I’m going to find someone to love me.’ I went to look for love and never thought I would fall so far. I stood in the living room, shook my fist in the face of God, and said, ‘To hell with You, God. “My dreams of the ideal life were shattered. The enormous pain of her broken life led her away from what little she knew about God. The results of this condition later led to their divorce. Little did she know her first husband had an unrecognized and therefore untreated bipolar condition. Kay married at a young age and had two boys. Kay Arthur could have been one of these people.
